Amnesty International is a global movement of over 7 million people who fight against injustice. We change the world together so that everybody could use their rights.

Our School began the cooperation with Amnesty International in 2016 as one of our teachers took up initiative. She was inspired by the history of Raif Badawie, got into prison for keeping a blog. This history as well as increasing social unrest resulting from war in Syria were the reason why we, the teachers and the group of students took up the action towards raising young people’s awareness of contemporary global problems.

School volunteers got engaged in several projects, e.g. ‘All people are born free and equal’ – when they took part in workshops of migration and refugees; they also prepared and conducted Writing Letters Maraton in the name of human rights and they participated in action: ‘Hello’, which aims at promotion of openness for refugees.

We have already written 356 645 letters in about 800 places in Poland.

In our School the Maraton took place for the first time in 2016 and it was an incredible event. All School society got engaged in writing the letters (all the students, teachers and administration workers) as well as friends from other Schools. We wrote 4753 letters altogether.

Presently together with volunteers we have been preparing to the next Maraton and we are awaiting the meeting with Elsi, a refugee from Chechnya, who would like to share with us his story.
